Support A Shining Light
All battles are not fought on the battlefield as we typically think of it. Heroic battles are waged in hospitals, cancer clinics and in the living rooms of the more than 200,000 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States each year.
Courage can come in a beautiful package, and Cindy Woodard is a beautiful person inside and out. She "met the enemy" the day before Thanksgiving, 2008. Even though she still cooked Thanksgiving dinner the next day, in her heart of hearts she knew her life would be forever changed. Since that day, she has endured chemotherapy, surgery, a second round of chemotherapy and, at this writing, has just finished her final week of radiation that will take her to that life beyond breast cancer where she will join the more than 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. today.
Breast cancer and its treatment can be an all-consuming struggle, draining physical and emotional strength. Cindy is fighting the battle with a grace and style and faith that inspires us all. With the exception of about three weeks recuperation after surgery, she has continued her work as Reimbursement and Managed Care Analyst at Maury Regional Hospital, in addition to taking care of her family.
Cindy says "The past 8 months have been quite a journey for Richard and me...and we have definitely acquired a new appreciation for all the many blessings in our lives. We are especially thankful for all the wonderful people we have in our "support group"...family, friends, church family and many more! It is so uplifting to feel all of the prayers and love shared with us during this difficult time-there are so many good people in the world"
This Colonel Cap with the pink ribbon insignia on the back is dedicated to Cindy and all women worldwide who are fighting the good fight to regain their health. It is a constant reminder to all of us of the victory to be gained in overcoming obstacles, the joy to be found in the gift of each day, the power of love and the indomitable triumph of the God-given spirit.
