This box is inspired by the Wells Fargo Strong Boxes that were carried beneath the seats of the six-horse stagecoaches that rumbled across the desolate plains, rugged mountains and unforgiving deserts of the Old West in the days of Wyatt Earp. As a boy I was deeply immersed in Western books and movies. You know the scene... the stagecoach is chased by outlaws firing six-shooters into the air. The bandits always catch the stagecoach and either come face to face with the driver's sawed-off shotgun or succeed in having the strong box of treasures tossed off the stagecoach. That scenario provided a lot of Saturday afternoon excitement for me at the local theater. At that time in my life almost every boy had his own personal treasure chest... maybe a cigar box or something similar in which he kept treasures like baseball cards, pocket knives, balls of string or maybe a secret decoder ring. This 1870's style Strong Box is my version of the grownup treasure box, because I firmly believe that dreams and treasures shouldn't end with childhood.

    The Strong Box comes complete with a hidden compartment under a false bottom that can only be opened by a special tool concealed under the lid. Made of American walnut strapped with hand-formed 1" wide steel straps to retain that rustic, old West flavor. Seventy-four round-head rivets secure the hardware to the box, and an exact copy of an 1870's padlock keeps your treasures secure. Leather handles for easy transport. Each box is serial numbered and may be personalized on the brass rectangular plate inside the box. Engraving included in the price.
