I bought this because it reminded me of my dad. Not because he had a shaving kit like this, and as a matter of fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a kit quite like this. One of a kind, if you ask me, right down to the last stitch. Same as my dad. He was always so hard to shop for because when he saw something he liked or needed, he got it, which left us pulling at straws come his birthday or Father’s Day. Something like this is worth every penny, maybe even a couple more. There was no need to wait. I’ll use it for many years, there’s no doubt in my mind. Col Littleton has found himself a new customer and another advocate. Next promotion, I’ve got my eye on that 1943 navigators bag, and I’m sure I’ll find the exact same quality, down to the last stitch. Thank you.

This piece is just beautiful. I couldn’t be more happy with the look and function of this shave kit. Truly first class in every way. The leather is just beautiful and it is so different than anything else you can find. I would definitely buy it again. So why only 4 stars??? I have to agree with No Nickname above. When you spend a lot of money for something like this, you are looking for a timeless look. Something that doesn’t date the piece. I have to admit, I really (really) don’t like the “.com” tag that is sewn on the inside. It is just a little bit of an eyesore as far as I’m concerned. Like No Nickname said above, we already know where to find the Colonel when we would like to place an order. It is perfect in every way in form and function. It is a small nitpick but something that needs to be considered when purchasing an item such as this.

Finest Dopp Kit on the Market.
I travel weekly and this kit provides me the opportunity to bring everything needed. The additional brass snap that Col. Littleton added to the product is perfect.

    What a gift !
I received the #2 shave kit from my lovely wife as a retirement gift. The very first trip that I took my carry on was pulled because I had an old school razor in the bag. The TSA agent was an older gentleman and had me pull the bag from my carry on. It was a small airport and not very crowded. I had a fellow passenger follow me and ask where I had found such a cool bag. I was proud to say that it was one of the many items that I had purchased from ‘The Colonel”

    Very nice
This is a beautiful product. However, I almost didn’t buy it do to the reviews mentioning the cheap zipper. I agree that the zipper should be brass or some kind of metal. The nylon type zipper isn’t the same quality as the rest of the bag. I’m afraid that if will not hold up so I sent two e-mails to the customer service department asking about the warranty. I got one response only mentioning the return policy (30 days). I read online and in the product literature about the guarantee, but it doesn’t mention a timeframe and it’s rather vague. But primarily due to the zipper, I held off on an excellent rating.

Finally a shaving kit that is everything I need…
Just received my No. 2 Shave Kit – Leather today and I had to post a quick review. In just one word, PERFECT!

I was concerned that it wasn’t going to be big enough for all of my shaving gear, but I shouldn’t have worried. This kit is, well, big. But for a wet shaver like myself, who also wears contacts it holds:

    Straight razor
    Shaving soap
    Shaving brush
    Tooth brush
    Tooth paste
    Contact case
    Contact soultion (a large bottle)
    Nail clippers
    And some other small items

If you are looking for a small bag that will hold only the bare essentials, you don’t have to get this bag (but you can anyways because it is wonderful). If you have a ton of stuff like I do, you can’t go

Love the quality of the leather, the brass snaps, the canvas pockets, the brass buckles and the straps.

The zippers should be brass retro military zippers, the kind with a brass handle and teeth. The zipper handles, while brass colored, look mid-quality to me and not the exceptional quality of the rest of the unit.

The top of the canvas flops in the middle when hung up – needs two extra brass snaps.

But an exceptional piece, just like the Colonel. 99% there, let’s make it perfect.

    In general, a beautiful piece!
I’ve oiled mine and it darkened up beautifully. Some people may prefer to watch their leather age naturally, but I intend to hand mine down a generation or two and like to know that the leather is protected. Wonderful leather, by the way; it takes oil well and softens remarkably well.

I removed the hanging loop because I thought the stitching looked out of place when compared to the no-stitching kit–easy. I don’t like the nylon trim, as it won’t “age” like the rest of this kit. I also don’t like the inside tag with the website on it–I removed it, as I see so many “.coms” throughout the day that I don’t want to see more. I know how to find Col Littleton when I’m ready to place an order.

I don’t like the nylon zipper either, though it is smooth and obviously good quality. This, along with the “.com” tag and nylon edging, “date” this piece in a way that I try to avoid.

I would also suggest that there should be a “hidden” pocket that is accessed only by unsnapping the cover from the kit itself–it could “fit” within the size of the main, middle pouch, so you wouldn’t be able to see the stitching from the front. I like this idea because when I stay in a motel I am not worried about room service/maintenance folks steeling the shave kit, that would be too obvious, but I do concern myself with where to keep checkbooks and other important paperwork when out of my room…in the event no safe is provided. Putting a hidden pocket in this thing would CERTAINLY be hiding things in plain sight–nobody is going to look through a shave kit for useful personal information.

In general, however, this is a wonderful kit! I love mine, and will have it for many, many years to come. I use it at least once a month, very happily, and would buy another in a heartbeat if this one suffered an ill fate. Being handy with sewing, I’ve often entertained the idea of re-constructing the canvas portion to omit the things I don’t like (and add the hidden pocket); even if I don’t, this is still a great kit and, in my opinion, well worth the money.

Oh, last thing: maybe one more button-snap right above the engrave-able brass? Mine sometimes flops open when hung…no big deal.

Thanks Colonel and friends! I’m pleased to be a loyal customer!
