No. 25 Portfolio in American Buffalo

Our ever-popular portfolio just got taken to a new level. The No. 25 Portfolio is fully lined in soft pigskin and features a larger front document pocket with both pen and business card holders. The design of the pad holder gives you an extra sleeve for papers and documents. Here it’s shown in our hearty American Buffalo which gives it instant heritage. Two-position solid brass snap front. Accommodates standard 8 ½” x 11” ruled pad. Comes with Colonel’s own Memorandum Pad which may be reordered.

Made in the Col. Littleton Workshop. Front may be personalized with three initials in lower right corner.

12” H x 9 ½” W

American Buffalo – “Expect a leather that is unapologetically rugged with more character, nicks, scrapes and variations in color.” ~ Colonel (Read more about American Buffalo Leather here)

  1. For anyone interested in the No. 25 Portfolio or any of portfolios from this manufacturer please, please, please read the following:

I’ve had the American Buffalo variant for around four months now.

Immediately when I received it, I realized I made the wrong decision in purchasing the No. 25 (as opposed to the No. 18): The design of the pad holder (the leather underneath the pad itself) that is advertised to give “an extra sleeve for papers and documents” is NOT useful for standard 8 ½” x 11” papers. It’s not very useful because with the pad inserted there is less room in the sleeve so inserting 8 ½” x 11” papers into the sleeve is cumbersome and not practical. The main reason why I decided to purchase the No. 25 in the first place was because of the advertised design of the pad holder; I wanted the a portfolio with the capacity to carry more personal documents. For this issue alone, I regret spending $145 more for this portfolio in comparison to the No. 18. (But as I did have the portfolio embossed, I was regretfully stuck with this portfolio.)

In addition, the leather strip on which the solid brass snap front are located creates palpable ridges underneath (which you can feel with the portfolio opened as you touch the pigskin lining underneath the leather strip). These ridges damage the edge of documents contained in the front (i.e., main) document pocket! So for the past four months, I’ve resorted to placing my documents in a manila folder and placing the folder itself into the document pocket in order to protect my documents.

Thirdly, the pen holder is not very useful too as it’s a tight fit when you insert writing utensils. I’d much rather prefer the design of the pen holder of the No. 18.

Fourthly, the edges of the portfolio have dried out not long after I received it! Strangely, it seems that the rest of the portfolio’s leather is in decent condition. I never expose my portfolio to the elements (especially considering how expensive it is) and keep it in my briefcase when it is not in use; I live in Southern California (San Diego county) so the humidity levels do not fluctuate. I actually purchased leather glue because the edges have begun to separate! As I’ve been applying the glue to the edges an hour ago, I’ve decided to write this review because enough is enough — I’ve had too many inconveniences with this $310 portfolio!!!

The reader must note that I rarely if ever write reviews. But this portfolio was such a disappointment (again considering its cost and how the cost is $145 more than the No. 18) that I needed out of conscience’s sake to write a review. And as I write this review, I can’t believe that after I submit it I have to resume applying leather glue to the separating edges of my $310 portfolio!

Note from Col. Littleton: We have reached out to this customer and given a refund for the No. 25 Portfolio. We worked with this customer to exchange for a No. 18 Portfolio. Thank you for providing honest feedback about your personal experience.

  3. This is the best of the best. I like carrying a fountain pen to do my TO-DO lists and other important issues. This portfolio in American Buffalo is the workhorse of the group. It is not only beautiful, it is made to impress you each time you use it. I always like opening this to get to work. I use the card slot to carry business cards and then behind them, some of the Colonel’s note cards. My fancy pen goes in the large slot. There is also plenty of storage for papers I need for the next several meetings. Great piece of equipment.

  4. This is the finest portfolio I’ve owned. I love good quality, well built leather products and this portfolio is very satisfying. The photos on the website well represent the portfolio. The paper that comes with it is high quality, and its color and design, including the brass rivets on top, compliment the color and design of the portfolio. The folks on the phone in customer service were very well informed and very nice. The portfolio came shipped in packaging and accoutrements that attest to the company’s passion. I will buy again, but not another Buffalo Portfolio, as this one will last forever.

  5. Enduring Craftsmanship – I was given this exquisite portfolio by my boss as a gift for achieving a particular sales goal that no one had surpassed in company history. It was a kingly gift that I take with me to every sales meeting. The compliments I receive on it are endless. The quality is unmatched and I look forward to the day I can pass it to my son. Lord knows it will last. It’s seen years of use already, and I have no doubt it will maintain for countless years to come. The patina and buffalo hide have aged beautifully and could not recommend any substitute!! Do yourself a favor and add this to your daily carry.

  8. If you are on the fence about buying the No. 25 American Buffalo portfolio, dont be. Buy it. It is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. The extra money for the finished inside is worth it, this thing catches eyes both opened and closed. The American Buffalo leather is wonderful and rugged. Col Littleton is great to deal with, if you get one with scars or character marks that you dont particularly like, they will have no problem exchanging it for you. The packaging it all comes in is something you just dont see much anymore. Everything about this is done to the 9’s! Buy it!

  11. After searching many different companies I decided on No. 25 as a gift for my wife. I placed my order over the phone. The women who took my order was very helpful and she even offered her personal opinion. My order was received within 2 days. Packaging was beyond my expectations. The product was in its own canvas bag placed in a gift box. Fit and finish of No. 25 is top notch. The buffalo leather is of excellent quality with lots of character. Layout is sleek and simple and has a spot for business cards, pen/pencil, additional papers and a memo pad. Altogether, classic in design. Great for executives needing something professional to take into meetings, or just as an everyday portfolio. My wife fell in love with its beautiful craftsmanship and quality.

Our Story

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steer hide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.

I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
