“American Alligator products are certainly at the top of my list of Col. Littleton offerings I enjoy making and carrying personally.
“This is the pocket journal I’m currently carrying. I made it for myself, and I’ve made three similar to mine to give three people out there an opportunity to experience the joy of carrying a journal like this.
“To say this pocket journal is unique is an understatement. If you like American Alligator products, I can tell you that most alligator products pale in comparison to this truly handmade, artistic example.
“Why have I not made more of them?
“When you watch the video above and realize what’s involved in designing and executing just one, you’ll understand what a painstaking process it is and why you’ll never see a large number on our website.
“One of the most character-rich parts of an alligator hide are the elbows, so I thought long and hard about how I could make something outstandingly beautiful from them. I decided on creating one of our No. 23 Pocket Journals.
“I quickly figured that it would take 4 elbow panels to make a pocket journal and in order to accumulate 4 panels that would complement each other, it would take three alligator hides from which to choose for optimum beauty. Then begins the painstaking process of cutting them out to the exact size by hand – there’s no other way – gluing them to a leather backing and sewing them together until the pocket journal emerges. The unique character that the elbows bring to this pocket journal is unmatched.
“So that’s a quick synopsis of what it takes to make an American Alligator pocket journal from alligator elbows. It was well worth the investment in time, and I am thoroughly enjoying mine. It’s a great conversation piece. Only four are in existence as I write this today – mine and the three currently on our website which won’t be there long.
“I can assure you there’s nothing even close to it out there on the market anywhere.”

I’m a list maker/note taker during every daylight hour and sometimes in the middle of the night. You never know when a million dollar idea might tiptoe across your cerebral cortex, so I’m set on ready. Made in the Col. Littleton Private Stock Workshop of authentic American Alligator and full leather lining, our pocket journal comes with 50 lined Col. Littleton note cards which fit into a tabbed leather holder and a 60-page lined register. (Cards and register may be reordered.) An inner pocket provides storage for business cards, receipts, etc. Perfect fit for shirt, jacket pocket or bag.
Date and file away the journals as you use them to keep up with “where you’ve been” as well as “where you’re going.” Edge stitched. Product packaging includes a protective cotton canvas dust bag and gift box.

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.
Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steer hide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.
I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
