No. 1 Surcingle Belt – Adjusting Design – One Size Fits Most

Colonel has added a timeless classic in traditional belts to our line of adjustable belts with the No. 1 Surcingle Belt. The sharp contrast of rich, dark tobacco brown American Buffalo leather trim and the khaki cotton surcingle strap sets this belt apart from any you’ll see.

The craftsmanship of the No. 1 Surcingle, designed to wear with jeans, khakis/chinos and shorts, is quickly evident. While most surcingle belts on the market are rather flimsy and lightweight in nature, Colonel has backed the edge-stitched American Buffalo leather with Italian bridle leather, giving it two layers of strength and durability. The khaki cotton surcingle webbing is thick and tightly woven, adding to the look and feel of quality. Appointed with solid brass hardware.

Our belt Collection was designed by Colonel Littleton with more than a nod to the military and sportsman’s tradition. When the belt first came out, the general reaction was “Why hasn’t someone thought of this before?”

The uniqueness of this collection of belts is in its’ adjusting feature. The traditional front buckle allows only three inches of fluctuation. Colonel’s belt adds another 8 inches, adjusting in one-inch increments. This means that one size fits almost everyone, which also makes it a great gift item. Here’s how it works. Rather than adjusting and readjusting the belt in the front and messing up the leather, you park it in the middle position, where it belongs, and make any necessary adjustments on the side. That way if you have on bulkier trousers, a heavyweight shirt, or layers for warmth… if you lose a few pounds or, heaven forbid, gain a few… your belt accommodates all these variations nicely.

Aside from being one of the most functional and practical belt collections on the market, this collection looks uncommonly good… especially with khakis and jeans, for which it was designed.

Belt Fit Guide

  • Our belts are sized based on the exact inside circumference of the belt when buckled in the front, center position.
  • In addition to the standard front buckle positions, our unique side adjusting feature allows another 8 inches of adjustment in 1-inch increments.
  • Measure your waist circumference and compare to our sizes to determine fit. Our belts sizes should compare to your waist size rather than your pant size, since pant sizing may vary by manufacturer.
  • If you are between sizes, we recommend going up a size. For example, a Large Belt fits waist sizes from 34-inches to 42-inches, so if you have a 33-inch waist, select the belt in Large.

  1. I love my Colonel Littleton belts, each distinctive in their own way. I have often had friends make mention of my different colonel Littleton belts which doesn’t happen with other belts i wear. I just received the Surcingle Belt and I am again delighted. the combination of dark leather, khaki strap, and adjustable feature is unique. Well done and more importantly, thank you!!

  2. This is my second Col Littleton belt. Great quality leather and design. The “gun sling” idea ensures that it will always look the same, even if your weight fluctuates a bit. Prompt and informed delivery and classy packaging are the icing on the cake!

  3. This one just arrived, as usual with all items the Colonel produces this is outstanding! I had purchased a similar one many years ago when Willis & Geiger were still in business, it’s been worn hard and I was DELIGHTED to see this one and had to have it.
I have made several purchases of Col. Littleton’s products, given some as gifts and these are without a doubt THE BEST! Buy one NOW, you will also be delighted.

  4. I like this belt! Classy, easy to adjust and elegant. This won’t be my final purchase. The belt looks sharp and is great quality… and thanks for the Moon Pie!

  5. No. 1 Surcingle Belt: THE TAMING OF THE TUMMY!

Leave it up to Colonel Littleton and company to leave me scrambling for a dictionary to figure out why this particular belt is a “Surcingle”….!

And here I thought I was procuring a “Colonelized” version of one of those cotton fabric belts that “yuppies” used to sport back in the Golden Era of Ronald Reagan.

Well…… come to find, in horse terms, a “surcingle” is a pre-saddle strap-on that gets the end-user used to having a proper, domesticated rig around their midriffs…. kinda like the rope belt that Jethro Bodine used to sport during his salad days on the Beverly Hillbillies TV show.

There is true, unapologetic and self-evident American genius in every CL offering! Not only does the No. 1 Surcingle offer an ergonomically familiar and comfortable introduction to his formidable line of belts and suspenders, it also affords an unexpectedly soft landing for your tummy after consuming the accompanying MoonPie(s) that find their way into every order shipment.

I haven’t verified this on a currently-certified US Bureau of Weights and Measures scale, but I HIGHLY suspect I shed five pounds every time I cinch up my No. 1.

And one can only wonder what Max Baer’s Hollywood future might have been if he had been sporting a CL No. 1 Surcingle belt back in the day. It would have certainly solidified his self-proclaimed credentials as a boy-genius.

Our Warranty

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.

Our Leather

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steer hide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.

Our Craftsmanship

I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
