Lynnville, TN — The Cumberland Valley Quilters, Columbia, Tennessee Branch Scrappy Chicks, recently honored Sergeant Robert E. White, a distinguished Purple Heart recipient and proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Sergeant White bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in combat and later awarded the Purple Heart for his courage and sacrifice.

Following his military service, Robert continued a lifetime of hard work and dedication to his community. Over the years, he held many positions — from his early days at the racetrack to his retirement from International Harvester in 2001. During retirement, he worked for Franks Vending and the Giles County Court System as a bailiff. He also enjoyed serving as a reserve police officer for Ethridge and being a member Giles County Honor Guard. Most recently, he served as Mayor of Lynnville, where his leadership and love for the town were well known and deeply appreciated.

Robert would tell you that his greatest accomplishment, however, is not one of titles or honors — but his 50-year marriage to his wife, Sandra, whom he married in 1975. Together, they have one son, Justin, a beautiful daughter-in-law, Megan, and four wonderful grandchildren. Before her retirement, Sandy was the retail store manager at Col. Littleton.

The Cumberland Valley Quilters’ touching tribute served as a reminder that the sacrifices and contributions of America’s veterans — both in and out of uniform — will never be forgotten. Sergeant White’s life of faith, service, and love continues to inspire all who know him.

Catering and refreshments for the event were graciously provided by Christy Tolly, owner of Herb and Howard’s General Store of Lynnville, adding a warm hometown touch to the special occasion.
