Handmade, Vintage Inspired Leather Briefcase

The No. 41 Commander Briefcase is unique and sophisticated – projecting an air of authority while it carries your important gear. This attaché is more ambassador than anything; its striking personality will clear the path and demand attention wherever you venture. It will never be just another bag in the crowd.

If you are only carrying two or three file folders and a legal pad, this is not your bag. This workhorse was designed to carry lots of gear – laptop, iPad®, portfolio, notebook, tech gear, etc. It’s robust and tenacious, just like you.

“The No. 41 Commander Briefcase was inspired by the restoration of my 1941 Dodge Command Car.  It took me about five years to personally restore the Command Car; and about a year within that time frame to design the briefcase. As I was restoring straps and buckling gear I began to think about how I would interpret that into a bag, and the No. 41 Commander Briefcase came clearly into focus.” – Colonel Littleton

Construction & Features

The bag is constructed in the Col. Littleton Workshop in Lynnville TN, USA with the same full-grain leather Colonel used to upholster the seats in the Command Car . . . a combination of our polished leather for strength and durability and our dry-milled leather to add softness where needed.

Fitted with solid brass hardware and a distinctive copper rod under the top flap to help evenly distribute the weight of the bag when fully loaded. A rigid bottom with brass feet keeps the briefcase upright. Two inside dividers, one with pockets, makes business cards, pens, phone, laptop, etc. easily accessible and organized. Serial numbered pommel shield* on the back pocket denotes exclusivity of the bag.

Once again, the Colonel has pulled out all the stops with the design of this beautiful, luxury case. A few more features of functionality and style include:

  • Overall exterior dimensions are 16 ⅞” (W) x 13” (H) x 5” (D) at bottom
  • Interior dimensions are 16 ½” (W) x 12” (H) x 5” (D) at bottom
  • Unique Y-Strap front with a cinch buckle closure
  • Leather handle and removable shoulder strap
  • Adjustable shoulder strap with comfort pad: 34 ½” – 42 ½”
  • Large 13 ⅞” (W) x 6 ⅞” (H) back pocket decorated with a serial-numbered pommel shield
  • Two inside dividers and pockets for business cards, pens, phone, etc.
  • May be personalized with three block initials on brass plate under flap
  • Product packaging includes a protective cotton canvas drawstring bag with the Col. Littleton Cameo Logo.
  • Warranted

With this bag you’ll generate a commanding presence wherever you go.

*Historically, the pommel shield was used on U.S. Cavalry saddles to identify the seat size and, many times, the arsenal that supplied them.

  1. This is the quality I was looking for after replacing a bag I had for over 10 years. It’s exquisite and people ask me what it is all the time. Of course, I tell them it’s from the Colonel, Colonel Littleton…! I love this briefcase and want to travel more, just so I can show it off..! This is truly the last briefcase I will have before retiring.
The Colonel knows what he’s doing..!
    Well done as always.

  2. The Commander 41 is literally the best briefcase I’ve ever owned. Unbelievable workmanship involved, down to the finest detail. It’s worth every penny, and then some! Be sure and get yours today. You’ll be glad you did.

  3. The purchase of the No. 41 Commander Briefcase has been my favorite purchase since I bought my last truck. I’m convinced that it’ll outlast the truck though. This is one of those products that would have made for a great unboxing video. It arrived on time, well packaged, in perfect condition, and with nice touches of customer service. I had been looking for a leather bag for a long time that would provide a more professional appearance compared to the fabric laptop briefcase and backpack I had been using. The No. 41’s color, smell, construction, size, quality, functioning closure hardware, being made in the U.S.A., and the fact that it stands on its own is what made it the correct bag for me. The simple and beautiful closure hardware makes for a quick and secure close. No fake closure straps with buttons here. No cheap fabrics or sub par leather hiding inside. No corners were cut. Col. Littleton made a superior product!

I left the house the other day with the No. 41 packed with two laptops, power cords, optical mouse, expandable file folder, and pens, and there was still some available space. At my destination it stood up with all of the contents without waver.

I keep the No. 41 next to my desk so that I can enjoy its rich leather smell and beautiful appearance. This bag is sure to turn heads whenever it is out and about. I’m looking forward to my next in person corporate setting knowing that I’ll have the No. 41 Commander in my corner.

Our Warranty

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.

Our Leather

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steerhide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.

Our Craftsmanship

I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
