“Christmas is Not About Me”

Video Transcript

Colonel: “When I was a kid, there were a few special days that I always looked forward to more than all the others: the last day of school, my birthday . . . but my favorite of all was Christmas. Christmas always brought great hopes, that I had a pretty good chance of getting the necessities of life, especially as seen by a young boy: a new BB gun, a pair of cowboy boots, and possibly a puppy, (and a long shot) maybe a pony. I was always a true believer in ol’ Santa. Well, Ol’ Santa never really quite came through, but I always had faith that next Christmas would be the one. At that age, Christmas was all about me. And as I got older, I still had a Christmas list every year, but it kinda changed a little bit each year from BB guns and ponies to clothes and things that were a little more practical, but Christmas was still kinda about me. Then as the years passed, Christmas seemed to have taken on a different meaning. Gifts and presents and the stuff that money bought just didn’t seem to be as important. Christmas had become more about being thankful for the gifts I already had, things like family and good friends and good health and peace of mind. So I guess like a lot of things in life, it takes a while for us to figure it all out. And I have finally come to the conclusion that Christmas is not all about receiving; it’s about giving and doing something good for other folks. And not only at Christmas, for as the Good Lord tells us, we should do good to our fellow man, every day of the year. Merry Christmas!”
