No. 3 Leather Grip Bag  in Tobacco Brown American Buffalo

Back in the day, folks carried wonderful bags, which were perfect for the stagecoach or train. We have a train that comes right through the middle of downtown Lynnville. As it passes through town, I always think about those travelers of yesteryear – how they dressed and what they carried. The No. 3 Leather Grip Bag is the result of that reflection.

– Colonel Littleton

Functionality and Design

Superbly handmade in our Col. Littleton Workshop, the No. 3 Grip really qualifies as Americana art; yet, it is very functional and serviceable. The beauty is in the details. Solid copper tubes and solid brass fixtures set it apart from any piece of luggage you’ll ever see. The No. 3 may be carried by either the leather handle or the adjustable shoulder strap which adjusts from 39.5” – 47.5”. Straps on the back secure your umbrella (umbrella not included).

Colonel has pulled out all the stops in creating this premium version of our always popular No. 3 Grip. The bag is a beauty to behold. Made of wonderfully textured, full-grain, rich Tobacco Brown American Buffalo which is dry-milled, making the bag soft and supple. Trimmed in our signature Vintage Brown polished American Steerhide. We’ve retained natural hide markings to add to the character of the bag. Solid brass hardware. The front brass pommel shield* is serial numbered, noting the exclusivity of the piece.

You wouldn’t believe how many customers tell us they routinely get stopped by fellow travelers in the airport and elsewhere who comment on the bag and ask where they bought it. It is sure to get you noticed.

– Colonel

The No. 3 Leather Grip Bag in American Buffalo is certainly in tune with the Col. Littleton look, so travel on in Col. Littleton, Americana style. May be personalized on brass oval plate. Bag Dimensions: 11”H x 21”W x 9”D – Shoulder strap adjusts from 39.5” – 47.5”. Product packaging includes a protective cotton canvas dust bag with the Col. Littleton logo. Made in Lynnville, TN USA.

(U.S. Patent D651400)

*Pommel Shield is seen in image #8. Historically, the pommel shield was used on U.S. Cavalry saddles to identify the seat size and, many times, the arsenal that supplied them.

This bag is also available in American Steerhide. Video above shows this version.

When it comes to American Buffalo, Colonel says,
“Expect a leather that is unapologetically rugged with more character, nicks, scrapes and variations in color.”

  1. This is without a doubt the most incredible duffle bag I have ever seen in my life! It is worth every penny! The details and hardware make this bag a show stopper! I am a Colonel Littleton junkie!!!

  2. No.3 Grip bag has been in my sights for over a year and finally I had had enough and pulled the trigger. Just to explain a bit, I have been blessed to have travelled to a number of destination and am drawn to Travel bags as some are to shoes, watches, wine and other things. I was waiting with anticipation on delivery of this bag and could not be happier. Wow, what an amazing piece of artistry and elegance in a very well built travel bag. I planning on using it on my next trip to Africa as my second bag. Looking forward to having the Colonel accompany me and explaining to fellow travelers where this unique piece comes from.

  3. Well, it turns out the Colonel was right. I bought this bag for a cruise to the Bahamas. No sooner had I gotten off the plane than our driver noticed the bag, said it was the best bag he’d ever seen and took a close up picture of the Littleton insignia. Same thing happened with the security people getting onto the cruise, the cruise cabin cleaning crew, even some other passengers. I had more people taking close up shots of the Littleton label than I’ve ever had comment on any of my luggage any time in my life. If Col. Littleton suddenly has a flood of orders from Cape Canaveral and the surrounding counties in Florida, I’m expecting a commission. It turns out I was a walking advertisement all week.

  4. Stop searching and make the purchase. I rarely submit reviews or more importantly, splurge on costly items for myself. I saw this bag at the store in Nashville twice last year. I awed from the outside at its sophistication and beauty then returned months later and examined it in detail. Reluctantly, and at the time regrettably, returned it to its shelf rationalizing that I couldn’t and SHOULD’NT spend that kind of money on a bag. Well you guessed it, I was hooked! I bought the bag in December and I’m completely thrilled about the purchase. It’s already had use and will no doubt be my benchmark travel piece. It’s quite large with enough room for clothes for a weekend trip along to include my computer and misc. cords. The craftsmanship is extraordinary which give me confidence that it will last a lifetime. The closing straps take a minute to break in but it’s not a hindrance. Hope this helps in your decision process. You deserve this!! Dave

  5. Dear Colonel Littleton,
First, I would like to thank you for sharing your artistic creations with us. Your rendering of leather into these exquisite bags, briefcases, etc. is a rare gift. I have the Commander Briefcase and the #3 Grip Bag sitting on my filing cabinet behind me. That would sound strange to most people, however, I found myself admiring the bags so often that I simply put them in a place where I could easily see them. They are truly beautiful and capture, I think, the essence of what a work of art should capture; beauty, simplicity, majestic charm, excellent workmanship, and that indescribable draw that the completed product exudes so that your eye is compelled to take a second look. Until now I have not been a leather connoisseur. However, you have changed me. I suppose every artist leaves a part of that which he loves in what he creates. I believe that you have done that in your leather works of art and that is what drew me to your products. By the way, I do plan to use them and not just admire them. However, as I carry them here, and there, or wherever, I am sure others will stop me to admire that which I have been fortunate enough to discover; not just a bag or briefcase but the artistic expression of a man who is gifted and passionate about his work and generous and determined enough to make that available to all of us. Yes, I think that everyone who carries your creations carries a part of you with them because it is very obvious that you have poured a part of your soul into each work. And that is the difference between just a bag (however expensive) and a Colonel Littleton bag.
    Blessings,
    CJ

Our Warranty

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.

Our Leather

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steerhide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.

Our Craftsmanship

I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
