No. 3 Leather Grip Bag  in Tobacco Brown American Buffalo

Back in the day, folks carried wonderful bags, which were perfect for the stagecoach or train. We have a train that comes right through the middle of downtown Lynnville. As it passes through town, I always think about those travelers of yesteryear – how they dressed and what they carried. The No. 3 Leather Grip Bag is the result of that reflection.

– Colonel Littleton

Functionality and Design

Superbly handmade in our Col. Littleton Workshop, the No. 3 Grip really qualifies as Americana art; yet, it is very functional and serviceable. The beauty is in the details. Solid copper tubes and solid brass fixtures set it apart from any piece of luggage you’ll ever see. The No. 3 may be carried by either the leather handle or the adjustable shoulder strap which adjusts from 39.5” – 47.5”. Straps on the back secure your umbrella (umbrella not included).

Colonel has pulled out all the stops in creating this premium version of our always popular No. 3 Grip. The bag is a beauty to behold. Made of wonderfully textured, full-grain, rich Tobacco Brown American Buffalo which is dry-milled, making the bag soft and supple. Trimmed in our signature Vintage Brown polished American Steerhide. We’ve retained natural hide markings to add to the character of the bag. Solid brass hardware. The front brass pommel shield* is serial numbered, noting the exclusivity of the piece.

You wouldn’t believe how many customers tell us they routinely get stopped by fellow travelers in the airport and elsewhere who comment on the bag and ask where they bought it. It is sure to get you noticed.

*Historically, the pommel shield was used on U.S. Cavalry saddles to identify the seat size and, many times, the arsenal that supplied them.

When it comes to American Buffalo, Colonel says,
“Expect a leather that is unapologetically rugged with more character, nicks, scrapes and variations in color.”

  1. Just received my Buffalo No. 3 Grip Bag. Had looked at this product for several years, originally seeing the standard leather model. This product….fit and finish…exceeds expectations. The bag is extraordinary. Also, came with a nice storage bag and some surprise goodies! The extras were unexpected and a nice touch. This company knows how to go beyond meeting the customer expectations. To say I am impressed is an understatement. So nice doing business with a company that truly focuses on the customer experience and provides “stellar” products.

  2. Greetings to the colonel and his team.
I have been looking at the NO. 3 grip bag for many years. And I finally decided to pull the trigger., especially when it was offered in tobacco brown buffalo leather. I was amazed when I saw this bag and got to examine, the leather, design, and quality. I would say with absolute certainty, this is not just a leather bag, it is rather an artful time piece that is ready for your journey. This bag, encapsulates elegance, class, rustic innovation, and quality that are unique in every way. I’m very glad I am adding this to my collection.
I have owned a leather specialty store for years in my past life, I am a leather fanatic. The are many leather bags out there, but none come close to the artful craft created by the colonel. Thank you.
    Happy Holidays.

  3. I loaded up the No. 3 Buffalo Grip for the first time hoping it would elevate my travel experience. A round trip flight from Pa to Fl would prove that everything the Colonel says about this bag being a conversation starter is an understatement!
On the jetway a very elegant lady walked up behind me and exclaimed, “Sir, your bag is absolutely fabulous! I haven’t seen anyone carrying a bag of that class in years. I was admiring it from afar while we were in the boarding area at the gate. It looked amazing. But the closer I’ve now gotten to it’s even more exquisite! Please tell me where you found such a wonderful bag.”
(She took a photo of the bag and label)
I thanked her for her compliments and began my weekend journey where the same experience continued to transpire at least six times while in the airports.
Colonel Littleton, for every person who commented on the No. 3 Grip, there were dozens of others with their eyes fixated on the bag throughout my travels. Heads continued to turn as travelers walked past this amazing bag.

The quality and attention to detail of your leather products is beyond reproach. This bag is in the highest elan of classic luggage. Anyone who owns this bag knows how quickly it will become their lifelong companion. I’m glad that it will one day tell its travel stories to my children.

Our Warranty

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.

Our Leather

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steerhide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.

Our Craftsmanship

I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
