Even though I was wise enough not to bring it up to the officer in charge, I actually don’t have a ‘standard-issue’ mentality. And, I fully understand that the people who come to Col. Littleton aren’t looking for ‘standard-issue’ goods. They’re looking for unique and different; so when I decided to design a duffel bag, I didn’t set out to make one like all the others. You might say this one is an ‘anti-standard issue’ leather duffel bag.”

The No. 1 Duffel is handmade by skilled artisans in the Col. Littleton Workshop in Lynnville, TN USA with our full-grain, dry-milled, Tobacco Brown American Buffalo and trimmed in Vintage Brown Polished Steerhide. Our dry-milled buffalo is vegetable tanned, then tumbled in wooden barrels to achieve a soft, lived-in look.
When it comes to American Buffalo, Colonel says,

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steerhide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.
I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. Wow! Been wanting and looking for a real leather travel bag for a while…and found it at Col. Littleton. Went with the iconic “Buffalo” No. 1 Leather Duffel Bag – Tobacco Brown. The elegant ruggedness has my name written all over it. Called customer service… very friendly and got answers to my questions. Took a weekend trip to Lynnville to visit with the great people at Col. Littleton. I have always admired the No. 1 duffle and, in my opinion, is the ultimate duffle. I have normally been a fan of the vintage brown steerhide, but this Buffalo bag is so beautiful that I finally decided to pull the trigger and buy it. As you expect from Col. This is a magnificent bag. The construction is very well done. It is quite roomy. An eye catching piece of luggage. Very classy. Delivery was quite fast as well. I am looking forward to acquiring other products in the future.
