No. 1 Saddlebag Briefcase – American Buffalo

The American Buffalo Saddlebag Briefcase was designed in tribute to American History, the U. S. Cavalry and the Old West! Its design, reminiscent of the saddlebags carried by the U. S. Cavalry from the 1850’s, is contemporary enough for today’s busy executive who likes something different.

Front straps with workable buckles also have snap closures behind the buckles for quick access. Inside front and back canvas dividers with pockets for pen, business cards, cell phone, etc. Roomy enough for a laptop computer. Outside back pocket. Adjustable shoulder strap with pad. Brass D-ring provides a good place for attaching one of our brass luggage tags. Has a serial-numbered brass plate on the back and may be personalized with three initials on the brass oval plate under the front flap.

16″ overall height, including handle. Inside dimensions are 12″H x 15″W x 4″D. Sized to fit many laptops as well as your iPad® in its protective case.

(Please measure your laptop and compare dimensions to ensure a proper fit.) Made in the Col. Littleton Workshop of American Buffalo.

Shoulder Strap Length: 34.5″-42.5″

Bag Weight: 3.3lbs.

  1. I received the American Buffalo Saddlebag Briefcase as a Christmas gift. I love it. The leather is beautiful and smells rich. Great size and weight.

  2. I love my bag. The buffalo leather is soft but has a really cool character to it. Quality is fantastic. It’s lightweight and easy to carry. Not overly large but I can fit a surprisingly good amount of stuff in it. 15″ laptop plus notebooks and a water bottle all fit fine. I’m so glad I pulled the trigger on this one!

  4. I too searched for the perfect everyday carry bag. And, I purchased bags that have now become ornaments! I read reviews, compared photos, studied dimensions and tried to understand leather. I decided to give the No.1 Saddlebag a try, as I had never read anything but 5-star reviews.
Well, when I received it, between the smell of the leather, the incredible feel of the buffalo leather, the comparative lighter weight of the bag, the interior organization, the game was over!!
I can’t complement Colonel Littleton enough on the overall quality of the bag and the efficiency of his customer service. I have, since then, ordered many other products, both in his regular leather and in the Buffalo leather. All have been exemplary. I find it a pleasure to use your products…they never disappoint.

  5. WOW!!! I just received my American Buffalo No. 1 Saddlebag and LOVE IT! I treated myself to this bag as a 20th anniversary work gift. As soon as I saw the UPS truck unload the box with the distinct Col. Littleton box and tape I couldn’t wait to open it.

The first thing I noticed when I opened the bag was a complimentary bag of No. 32 Medium Roast Blend Col. Littleton coffee. What a pleasant surprise. I will enjoy a cup with my Moon Pie. The next thing I noticed was the distinct leather smell as I took the bag out of the protective draw-string bag. This Saddlebag briefcase is just what I wanted. I can carry my laptop, books, Col. Littleton journal, business cards and much, much, more.
Thanks so much to the wonderful crew at Col. Littleton’s for the great customer care, speedy delivery and as always AMAZING products. I hope to enjoy this beautiful briefcase for years to come.

  6. I got my Col. Littleton No. 1 Saddlebag Briefcase this afternoon.

Time has been dragging by since I placed my order. I thought my wife was playing a cruel joke and changing the clocks but time really was moving slower. It was no surprise that I was trembling with anticipation when I was opening the package.

I tore into the box with a youthful exuberance that I lost decades ago but was stymied by the cloth sack the briefcase was in.

The amazing smell of tanned hide began wafting through the air dancing delicately on my olfactory glands. I had to take a moment to breathe it deep into my lungs.

I immediately noticed the soft suppleness of the buffalo leather. Luxurious is the only word that could possibly come close to properly describing the material.

The craftsmanship of the briefcase is impressive. In a modern world of technology and machinery it is a relief to see products being made with such dedication to detail and passion.

Aesthetically, the briefcase is something to behold, a dichotomy in design. Simple yet bold lines. The contrast between primal nature of the leather with the metal-age accents is a study in savagery and grace.

This is a must have, heirloom item. My sons are already fighting over who gets it when I die. For my own safety I have declared it is to be buried with me.

On a side note, my mustache has grown at least half an inch since I opened the box. I am not saying this briefcase has made me more manly or anything, but I won’t say that it hasn’t either!

  7. If it is good enough for the Colonel to use as his personal bag, it’s certainly good enough for me. What a distinctive piece in American Buffalo, and how good it feels to carry every day.

  8. Dear Colonel,

Received my No 1 Saddlebag briefcase in American Buffalo yesterday and I love it. This is my second Saddlebag as my original case was stolen out of my car. My original case was in cowhide and was not sure if I would prefer the American Buffalo when I ordered it. I must say I love the finish and texture of the American Buffalo. I will be more careful with this case so hopefully I can pass it down to my son in the future. Thanks for the quality products.

    Sincerely,

  9. Dear Colonel,

Yesterday, on my 28th year anniversary at my job, I received my American Buffalo No. 1 Saddlebag Briefcase from you and love it.

I had ordered it as a little reward for my bringing home the bacon to my family all these years. In doing so I wanted a new briefcase to last for the next 15 years which I hope will be the last of my working years. Then I plan to venture with my wife Karen through my WLD WSST.

In trying to decide which bag I would order I searched and searched for a Saddlebag style of bag that spoke to me of my Western soul. I had come down to two; The Saddleback Leather company’s “Classic” or Buffalo Jackson’s “The Denver”.

In order to help make up my mind I sent paperwork on these two items to the author Craig Johnson. I have befriended Craig after becoming deeply embedded with his books and the TV show about a character he created, Sheriff Walt Longmire.

I asked Craig if Walt worked in an office, which of those two bags: Saddleback Leather or Buffalo Jackson would Walt carry? Craig’s response was he thought both were swell but he wanted to throw one other into my hat for consideration. That being your No. 1 Saddlebag Briefcase.

I then studied the heck out of your bag and compared it to the others. I pretty much fell in love with your bag right away.

It’s silly but the thing I like most is there’s just enough hide at 3.3 lbs to get the job done. Not too much to show off.

When I placed my order Lisa and Charlene from your ordering departments were swell and real down to earth folks.

The bag arrived yesterday on my 28th year work anniversary. I couldn’t have been happier. I had my hand on it the whole way home on my 1 1/2 hour commute. In doing so I could feel the power of Buffalo and hear the swaying prairie grass on the windswept plains of Wyoming. That made me smile and calmed the madness in my mind.

My No. 1 Saddlebag briefcase is beyond a work bag. It’s an extension of my heart in the west. Thank’s Colonel to you and yours. You made a 57 year old man’s day and next 15 years.

Peace & God Bless you, yours and the crafts folk that keep the American Spirit alive.

Our Story

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steer hide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.

I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
