No. 30 Personalized, Refillable Leather Journal

This vintage-inspired leather journal cover is great for executives, writers, journalers, note takers and list makers. Handmade in the USA with our full-grain, double tanned American Buffalo.

The leather composition journal notebook has been around since the mid-1800s or thereabouts. Even with the proliferation of electronic devices, its popularity and relevance endures.

“I’m not guaranteeing that writing in this handsome notebook will inspire you to greatness or improve the quality of your cognitive reasoning, but I can guarantee you’ll look good using it.”

-Colonel Littleton

Made in the Col. Littleton Workshop in Lynnville, TN, USA from full-grain Tobacco Brown American Buffalo which is wonderfully textured and dry milled for a soft hand. Colonel trimmed this upgraded, premium version of the journal in our full-grain Vintage Brown American Steerhide and lined it in Calfskin to enhance the quality and aesthetics of the journal. Our leather is both vegetable-tanned and hand-tanned. Over time, this special leather develops its own natural character and patina – the more you use this journal, the better it looks.

Colonel’s Journal Register, which may be reordered, contains 160 ruled and center-stitched pages (80 sheets). Opens flat so you can write on both sides of the paper. Standard composition notebooks also work well with our journal cover. Date the registers on the inside cover, file them away and you have a chronicle of your daily activity and a treasure for future generations – your life story as told by you.

Construction and Extras

Reinforced polished leather spine and edge stitching for durability. Extra storage with interior pockets for business cards and pens. We’ve included the Colonel Littleton Expedition Pencil, brass paper clip and Journal Register. The notebook cover includes two attached leather bookmarks. Personalize your journal with 3 block initials engraved on solid brass plate.

When it comes to American Buffalo, Colonel says,
“Expect a leather that is unapologetically rugged with more character, nicks, scrapes and variations in color.”

  1. Just received my #30 Journal in Tobacco Brown American Buffalo and must say it exceeds every expectation I had. The design, quality of the leather and stitching, plus the little details like the leather page markers and personalization tag are outstanding. This is one extremely well made journal. The packaging was incredible and very well done and the included Moon Pie is a great touch. The customer service is outstanding. I’ll be ordering more from Col. Littleton that’s for sure.

  2. I’ve fallen in love with the American Buffalo in the Tobacco Brown color, so this composition journal quickly became a favorite. It feels so good in my hands, and makes me want to journal even more. It’s beautiful! (I purchased mine with the American Alligator trim, but could not find that particular one on the site when doing a search to leave this review.)

  3. I work at a local university and we order products from the Colonel on a regular basis. You won’t beat the quality or the service. Top-notch company and goods. When we purchase his items, we know that the gifts will always be treasured and appreciated for years to come.

  4. This journal cover is so nice. The quality and craftsmanship are second to none. I just love it and look forward to opening it up , and smelling that sweet leather every morning. Also, can’t say enough nice things about the professionalism of their staff. It’s so nice to receive a phone with personal updates on orders.

  5. Love this journal. Beautiful finish and very well made, made to last. Has that top quality feel and look to it. The bag that it was protected in is a very personal touch. Steve Lockyer November 4th 2021

Our Story

Our Warranty

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.

Our Leather

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steer hide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.

Our Craftsmanship

I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
