  1. Good quality paper. It is a bit heavy and stiff, but I would rather have that than easy to tear, or the ink bleeds through!

  2. I love my #9 journal. Unbelievable quality that will last for generations. The refills fit perfectly and I expect to leave my journals to my family as a part of my legacy of thoughts along with photo albums. Keep up the awesome work. Shipping is always fast and accurate. Thank you so much.

  4. The paper is a perfect quality for taking a Triple Broad Oblique MontBlanc Fountain Pen, at least. The best ink I have found is ‘ take-sumi iroshizuku [deep black] ‘, produced by Pilot.

A few years ago I actually purchased a 6-hole punch, and have often substituted various papers…but no more.

As a Journalist and Sketcher, this is the finest quality paper. The buff-tan is perfect for sketching or journaling, and the ink will not bleed through, but with a broad point, and / or several fine points…there is no feathering, and it looks great.

  5. These refills are unquestionably a value at the price offered. The paper is very heavyweight and so useful for a myriad of things you can do with it…write on it, glue or tape things, easily tear out if needed…I could just go on and on with how great a value and convenient they are. Couple it with the Colonel’s legendary service and it’s a no-question situation. I just ordered a refill and got: A great shipping box, a refill (unbelievably carefully wrapped in craft paper), a little moon pie, a leather coaster and other little documents. All for the price of a refill that arrived three days after ordering it and even that with free shipping. I’m stunned as to value received, literally.

Why not five stars, you may ask? The reason there is two fold but my underlying theme is because I’m extraordinarily picky. Off the charts picky. I am a writer and love writing with a fountain pen and one with an EF nib at that. This paper’s tooth and weight is almost ‘too’ heavy for a fountain pen. I find a roller or gel to be far better on this paper. So that’s my first note. My second is that when laced into the No 9’s spine, it literally becomes very hard to write on the second half of the journal’s pages as the paper is so heavy it wants to ‘fight you’ as you write. As a work around that others may find value in, I did discover that if you’ll take the journal refill, before installing it, and lay it flat and fold each pager over, right to left, as if you were just opening the pages individually, it allows some flex in the spine. And overall better solution would be if the Colonel offered an alternative refill that is better suited to pure writing; meaning good paper but not as heavyweight as this refills. That would also allow easier flexing while writing and the paper would fold / stay out of the way so much easier. That’s a small gripe but, being a writer, I live in my journals, so I tend to notice the nuances of each unique style. But for value received, nobody on the plane it close to what this refill provides.

  6. I have been using a Colonel Littleton Journal to chronicle my sailing adventures since 2008. It holds up well even in a marine environment and inspires me to keep up with our travels as we sail to far off places. The quality is excellent and service is superb. You can’t ask for more than that

  7. I am on my seventh refill. I love the weight of the paper, how well the holes line up every time and the ease of replacing it. The journal is pretty stiff at first but loosens up with use. I love it, and plan on using it for years,

  8. The best customer svc, the e-mail follow up lets us know that our small order is important.

  9. Amazing customer service. I love the feel and weight of this paper. The unlined refills are perfect for artwork and journaling together. The weight of the paper also makes it great for paints and glueing in keepsakes. I’ve had my leather journal now for a few years and it just keeps getting better with age. Please don’t ever stop making these great refills!!!

  10. Same paper that comes with the journal. Heavy weight and almost too heavy. I took one star away as it would nice if the lined paper was lined on both sides and the hole pattern matched a standard evenly spaced hole set.

  11. Excellent quality paper that fits the original journal perfectly. Fast delivery; I ordered on Friday, received on Saturday (with standard shipping)! A fine Tennessee company.

Our Story

We are committed to producing quality, handcrafted products that showcase our time-honored standards of excellence and deep respect for the Americana tradition. Col. Littleton products go through rigorous testing and numerous quality inspections before being shipped to our customers. Should you receive a Col. Littleton product that is defective in materials or workmanship, you can count on us to make it right. Our guarantee is limited to the cost of the product itself. It also does not cover normal wear and tear. We feel if you just plain “wore it out,” you got your money’s worth. Also, we cannot be responsible for an item which has suffered through alteration, damage due to improper cleaning, improper use, mishandling or accident. If we made a mistake in personalizing your product or if the product is defective in materials or workmanship, of course we’ll replace it. Otherwise, personalized products are not returnable.

Leather is a passion for me. There are more kinds of leather and leather processing out there than you can shake a stick at. You can mold leather into just about any shape or form. You can make every hide look just alike. You can dye it green, blue or even pink. You can apply a finish, coat it, spray it or make it look slick and shiny. That’s not what we’re about at Col. Littleton. To me the beauty is in the naturalness of the leather. People always comment to me about the special “feel” of our leather and how it becomes even more beautiful after it has some wear on it. It’s all about our leather process. When you buy Col. Littleton leather goods, you’re buying, for the most part, full-grain American vegetable-tanned steer hide that has received a minimum of alteration. We don’t apply a finish to hide character markings. The way I see it, every marking tells a story and covering them robs the piece of its life and character.

I see a real resurgence in the country today for products made in America. Our focus is to design and create products that speak to the time-honored traditions that have made this country great such as handmade craftsmanship, authentic rich leathers and quality workmanship. There’s a nostalgic feel about the products we make . . . most of them could have been made 100 years ago and many are made using turn-of-the-20th-century methodology and machinery. Our products are true Americana; forged as our forefathers intended by people who care and take pride in making a beautiful product.
